One of the major criticism of Windows Phone was its ailing apps library. While that has been fixed to some extent now, another problem was the updates the apps receive to iron out the problems faced by the uses. WhatsApp has finally updated their app to fix the notification bug using a proper background agent instead of the background audio.
The new update takes the app’s version number 2.10.488 and irons out a lot of kinks, especially on Windows Phone 8. The usage of background audio streaming API to control the notifications was one of the major reasons for the app to act buggy and unreliably. Apart from the new way of handling notifications, the updates also brings new UI, Fast Resume feature and support for new languages.
With these new changes, the app is a lot faster and takes just 1-2 seconds from the home screen, and even fast when already inside the app. There are a lot of other features missing such as saving video or attaching video files from library, but they would hopefully be fixed soon now that the main bugs have been addressed.
The app is still free to install for the first year, but needs a $1/year fee after the time limit has elapsed.
