‘Nokia Black’ Software Update Now Rolling Out To Lumia 925 & Lumia 1020

Nokia is now rolling out a much awaited ‘Lumia Black’ update to its Windows Phone 8 smartphones; Lumia 1020, 925, 920, 820, 720 , 625, 620 and 520. Nokia Lumia 1320 and Nokia Lumia 1530 have this update pre-installed. The first batch of phones to get this update are Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925. The update is now seeding to compatible devices all over the world. Other eligible Lumia models will be getting the update in coming weeks.

Nokia Lumia Black Update Windows Phone 8 Compatible Devices

The first batch of phones to get the ‘Nokia Black’ update are Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925.

The Lumia Black update includes many new features such as an ability to organise and group apps into folders and Bluetooth LE support.

  1. App Folders – Organise applications and games into folders on start screen.
  2. Nokia Glance screen 2.0 – Now you can have up to five notifications along with the time such as missed calls and new text messages, unread WhatsApp messages and unread mails etc. You even have an option to change the notification colour on the Glance screen to Red, Green and Blue.
  3. Bluetooth v4.0 LE Support – The new update integrates Bluetooth v4.0 LE (Low Energy) support through which devices like Adidas MiCoach Smart Run watch are compatible.
  4. Nokia Beamer – Nokia has also integrated Nokia Beamer through which documents, presentations and other multimedia stuff can be beamed to a HTML5 enabled screen by simply scanning a QR code on the screen. Although this feature is restricted to devices with at least 1GB of RAM.

  5. Nokia Refocus – An app which can focus the selected area after capturing the image is now available to all the Lumia devices with 1GB of RAM or above.
  6. Nokia Storyteller – Organising the photos is now easier with the Nokia Storyteller which now arranges your photos by date and by place with integration of maps.
  7. Nokia Pro Camera – Nokia Pro Camera app is now combined with Nokia Smart Camera to ensure perfect shot every time, This update brings raw DNG (Digital Negative Format) support to the Lumia 1020.
  8. Improved Image Quality – Nokia has improved the image quality by updating the imaging algorithms in its ‘Nokia Black’ update. The effect is especially prominent on the Nokia Lumia 1020 which now includes a new oversampling algorithm which makes images look more natural with reduced noise and sharper image.
