Micromax Launches Funbook Pro, A100 Superfone Canvas and A90 Superfone Pixel

By Rohit Ramesh on Saturday 18th of Aug 2012

Micromax is on a roll these days. After their very popular Micromax Funbook 7″, they went ahead and started releasing a slew of budget Android phones in the price range of Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 10,000. Today we see the launch of 3 ICS devices from Micromax, namely the Funbook Pro 10″, A100 Superfone Canvas and the A90 Superfone Pixel.

Micromax Funbook Pro 10″

First up is the Micromax Funbook Pro 10″, a follow up to the hugely popular Funbook 7″ tablet. This tablet bears a design much like the original. There are a few differences here and there which make this tablet an overall better purchase compared to the 7″ version. However, the 7″ version cannot be beaten in terms of portability. Let’s have a look at what makes the Funbook Pro 10″.

Micromax Funbook Pro Full Specifications:

  • AlWinner A10 Chipset
  • 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 CPU
  • ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 10.1″ (1024×600) display
  • 0.3 MP front cam
  • 8 GB internal storage
  • upto 32 GB SD card slot
  • 5600 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0.4 ICS
  • Price: Rs. 9,999

The new Funbook Pro holds a bigger 10″ display with a much higher resolution (and much needed too) of 1024×600. While a bit on the lower side, it’s pretty good considering this is a budget tablet. 8 GB of internal storage is certainly welcome, and 1 GB of RAM would ensure smooth operation using Android 4.0 ICS (compared to 512 MB on the Funbook). A big 5600 mAh battery promises 5 hours of browsing time, which is pretty decent we believe. The Funbook also supports 3G dongles like the Tata Photon+ (1 GB data for 2 months free) and the tablet is capable of playing back HD videos across a wide range of formats (AVI, WMV, MP4). It also supports USB 2.0, USB OTG(On The Go) and HDMI Out. Overall a complete and good package, especially for Rs. 9,999.

Micromax A100 Superfone Canvas

The Micromax A100 Superfone is an interesting device. Being Micromax’s first smartphone to come pre-installed with Android 4.0 ICS, you can see why we are excited and waiting to see how it turns out to be. On top of that, this phone has a humongous 5″ display. Throw in a dual-core processor with dual-sim support, and you have a smartphone shaping up to becoming something pretty great. And then comes the price tag. Rs. 9,999. Yes, you read it right. There may be compromises in build quality to achieve such a low price tag, but at that price, you can’t really ask for more from a smartphone.

Micromax A100 Superfone Full Specifications:

  • Mediatek MT6577 Chipset
  • 1GHz Dual-Core Cortex A9
  • Dual-Sim (GSM+GSM)
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 5? capacitive display
  • FWVGA 854×480 resolution
  • 5 MP camera with LED flash
  • Android 4.0.4 ICS
  • 4GB Internal Memory
  • upto 32 GB SD card slot
  • Price: Rs. 9,999

Micromax A90 Superfone Pixel

The last of the newly launched devices is the A90 Superfone. This phone is peculiar since it is priced higher than the A100, which chronologically brings an error. But this phone does have some features that make it more valuable than it’s much much bigger counter part. Let’s have a look at it’s technical specifications.

Micromax A90 Superfone Full Specifications:

  • Mediatek MT6577 Chipset
  • 1GHz Dual-Core Cortex A9 CPU
  • Dual-Sim (GSM+GSM)
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4.3″ WVGA(800×480) display
  • 262k colors SuperAMOLED
  • 8 MP camera with LED flash
  • 0.3 MP front camera
  • Android 4.0.4 ICS
  • upto 32 GB SD card slot
  • 1600 mAh battery
  • 5 hours talktime
  • Price: Rs. 12,990

While mostly retaining the same internal specifications, the A90 differs in having a screen of the SuperAMOLED make. That itself gives this phone an edge over others as this is the cheapest phone to ever sport a SuperAMOLED display. Other than that, the beefy 8 MP camera is sure to give good shots. Dual-Sim support is there, so is a dual-core processor. Overall, a good package from Micromax. However we believe this phone too, like it’s elder brother would make more sense at the same Rs. 9,999 price tag. Maybe that will happen soon too, with price drops.
