Zopo Leader ZP900 preview: 5.3-inch, 8MP, dual-SIM, dual core 1GHz

By Salman Ravoof on Thursday 29th of Nov 2012

Indian mobile phone market is filled with world renown brands such as Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony etc… Local mobile manufacturing companies such as Karbonn and Micromax have also grabbed up quite a big share of the Indian mobile phone market. The trend of customers preferring smartphones over featurephones has prompted the manufacturers to take notice, and Android has emerged as the clear choice of mobile operating system in the smartphone wars as of yet.

ZOPO is one of the major mobile phone brands in China, and the company is all set to launch its Android powered smartphones in India. ZOPO mobiles will initially setup four ZOPO EXPERIENCE stores in the country, located in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.  The phones will also be sold online through major websites and other dealers/retailers. ZOPO ZP200 enjoyed great success in China as China’s First Glasses-Free 3D Android Phone and ZOPO aspires to do the same with its ZOPO ZP900 Leader smartphone.

The ZOPO ZP900 Leader features a big 5.3-inch qHD resolution IPS screen. The device sports capacitive touch for responsive and accurate input and is powered by MediaTek’s MTK6577 1GHz dual-core processor. The processor is coupled with 1 GB of RAM, and the phone features 4GB of internal storage with support for up to 32GB additional external memory with the help of a micro-SD slot. The phone is teamed up with an 8MP camera rear camera with LED flashlight and a 2MP front-facing camera. The top of the phone contains a 3.5mm earphone jack and the bottom features a micro-USB port. The left side of the phone is smooth and unhindered, and the right side features a Power ON/OFF button and a volume rocker button, allowing for easy volume controls. A leather case is provided with the handset for additional protection.

ZOPO ZP900 Leader Specifications:

It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and can be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the future. On the connectivity side, it supports WCDMA/GSM+GSM/3G WCDMA (HSDPA) network and dual-SIMs on dual standby. WiFi is also supported and the 2400mAh battery provided with the phone makes sure it does not run out of juice soon. The handset is available in Black and White colours.

The phone will retail in India at a MSRP of Rs.15,999/-.  The company will also provide 3 months replacement warranty & 1 year support warranty.

There’s also a cheaper and comparatively lower end ‘Lite’ model which will carry a  5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera, and comes in with just 512MB RAM. All the other features remain the same and it will be powered by the same processor and chipset. The lower end model will retail at Rs.10,999/- .  This phone also comes with 3 months replacement warranty & 1 year support warranty.
