A tiff between two smartphones is nothing new today. As long as you are watching their battle from the sidelines, it is enjoyable. But when it comes to you personally, to choose between the two, the face-off is enjoyable only if you know the contenders inside out. What we mean to say is that we get super interested in a gadget only when we decide to buy it. Knowing its pros and cons is of course essential. Hence, in this article, we present a feature-wise face-off between the Sony Xperia Z and the Nokia Lumia 920 equipped with Android’s proven Jelly Bean and Windows 8 respectively.
The displays of both the phones are quite large, with Xperia Z scoring a notch higher with a 5 inch screen. With a whopping 443 PPI and TFT technology, Xperia Z can be a prized possession in your hand. The Nokia has a 4.5 inch screen, 332 PPI and uses IPS LCD technology.
They both are somewhat similar in size, but Xperia Z weighs a little lesser than Lumia 920. Both these phones are integrated with powerful Operating Systems, yet somehow, Windows 8 beats Android 4.1.2 with its unique features. Xperia Z comes with an added advantage of being water and dust proof. Now that’s a feature many of you would love to have! While Xperia has stuck to the traditional colors with an addition of Purple, Lumia 920 comes in shockingly vibrant colors such as neon, drop-dead Red and Yellow apart from the traditional tones.
The Xperia Z has an in-built Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064, and uses a Quad Core 1500 MHz processor. On the other hand, the Lumia 920 has Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 and uses Dual Core 1500 MHz processor. Xperia has 16 GB built-in storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB, while Lumia’s built-in storage is 32 GB.
Battery backup for Xperia Z is around 11 hrs (talktime) and 550 hrs (stand-by time). However, with 3G, you get a better talktime backup. Music playback and Video playback are 40 hrs and 5.5 hrs respectively. Nokia Lumia 920 gives you more talktime backup than Xperia Z, around 17 hrs. But the stand-by time is less amounting to 400 hrs. Audio and video playbacks are 67 hrs and 6 hrs respectively, which are much higher metrics than Xperia Z.
Though the Xperia Z has 13.1 megapixels and the Lumia 920 has only 8.7, the photography experience is better in Lumia 920 than Xperia Z. It is because of some unique features like low light photography, white balance presets, exposure compensation etc. It should also be kept in mind that Lumia 920 has a Dual LED flash. Some features like Geo tagging, BSI, touch to focus, auto focus, self timer are common to both the devices. For video capture, Xperia Z has 1080p HD while Lumia 920 has 720p.
Windows phone Lumia 920 has integrated Internet Explorer 10 and it supports HTML, XHTML, HTML5, XML and CSS 3. While the weaker (in this case) Xperia Z only supports HTML and HTML 5. This basically means there is a minor difference in the types of sites that can be accessed on these browsers. Some sites that rely on Flash may not be accessible on the Sony Xperia Z. Whereas, built-in online services like Twitter, YouTube etc. are almost the same.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is priced at Rs. 38,199 and the Xperia Z is priced at Rs. 37,990 giving the latter a slight edge as of now. You can check out the Nokia touch screen mobiles with price list to get a better idea of the other available options in the market as well.
