The E3 Press Conference was in short a battle between two warriors, Microsoft and Sony. These brands gave the gaming community new light during the past few days by announcing the Xbox One and the Playstation 4. Now, let us see the two battle it out against each other.
The Xbox One and the PS4 sport a custom Microsoft 8 core processor and an 8 core Jaguar processor respectively. Both feature a Blue-ray/DVD optical drive. Xbox One sports 8 GB DDR3 RAM and the PS4 sports 8 GB GDDR5. Storage should be plenty as both are equipped with 500 GB Hard Drives. External storage may be done via USB 3.0 in both consoles. Ethernet and WiFi is evident in both devices for Web connectivity. PS4 takes the cake by sporting an additional Bluetooth 2.1 for connectivity, which the Xbox One does not. The mavericks are well equipped with 4K HDMI support and an optical output. The controllers of both devices inherit a bit of their designing aspects from their predecessors, Xbox One has it’s controller and PS4 has DualShock 4. Motion gaming is possible in both by virtue of Kinect 2 and PlayStation Move respectively.
Both consoles look evenly matched in terms of specifications but, PS4 gets the upper hand owing to it’s lower price tag of $399 compared to $499 for Xbox One.
DUALSHOCK 4 (PS4)
A cleanly constructed controller which has a shade of it’s predecessor, this time with an additional touch pad up front. The controller communicates with the Console by Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. The body also has a Light Bar which enables PS4′s eye camera to track the user’s position. The controls include two analog sticks, direction controls, four action buttons and an additional share button. It also has built in Mono Speakers and a headphone jack.
Xbox One Controller
If you have seen the Xbox 360 controller, this controller looks pretty much the same. The controller communicates through WiFi Direct, which is much faster than Bluetooth 2.1. The console detects player positions by use of Microsoft Kinect. It also sports 4 action buttons, 4 direction buttons and two analog sticks.
Overall, the Xbox One controller has faster connectivity, and the DualShock 4 has an additional touchpad which gives game developers more options for innovation. Both have their boons and banes.
Even in the E3 conference, Sony got more up votes than Microsoft. Sony is already well established, thanks to the PS3 which had high sales in the past year. A PlayStation app is also available for Android and iOS. User opinion polls also show that many prefer the PlayStation to the Xbox. Microsoft is clearly outclassed by Sony in terms of marketing their device thus making PS4 a clear winner here.
Xbox One games like Ryse, Metal Gear Solid 5, Minecraft, Titanfall, Forza Motorsport 5 etc were announced yesterday. PlayStation 4 games like Assassin’s Creed 4, The Dark Sorcerer etc. For the entire gamelist of Xbox One visit this site. For entire game list of Playstation 4 visit this site.
Overall both Sony PS4 and Xbox One have been very prompt with their game releases with a good number of third party games too. You will be satisfied with the number of game releases in both the consoles.
Playstation 4 takes the cake being much cheaper than the Xbox One with a price difference of $100, offering the same or better features than the latter. It will sell more owing to Sony’s popularity and the ability to integrate DUALSHOCK with smartphones. Sony’s publicity is also far better than Microsoft’s. The Xbox One is a very good device, but Microsoft could have done better with their pricing and marketing.
