Apple and Intel associate for a Smartwatch
A Bluetooth enabled wristwatch for Apple devices in the pipeline?
If reports are to be believed, in an unprecedented move Apple and Intel unite to conceive a smart wristwatch. This Bluetooth enabled wristwatch, if it sees the light of the day, would be the ultimate accessory for your iDevices. Capable of connecting to all iOS devices via Bluetooth, the watch presents remote access to smart devices in the vicinity in the most lucid manner.
It’s safe to presume the watch would support Bluetooth 4.0 owing to the fact that Apple has released many v4.0 enabled products including the iPad mini, iPhone 4S & 5 and the new iPad. In fact, the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol (which is included in the 4.0 bundle) that is specifically designed for very low power Bluetooth applications such as the watch in this case, further throws weight. Reports also indicate the inclusion of Siri which further augments the utility of the device and an 1.5 inch OLED display with the release slated at the first half of 2013.
For an Apple fanatic this might most certainly make it to his wishlist but I’m going out on a limb to say this ain’t worth it. Why? The reason is the narrow range of Bluetooth the maximum being 100 metres. If you’re gonna use the watch to connect to your devices, that obviously means they aren’t far from your hands’ grasp. At this range is remote access really a necessity?(You might counter me with the case of a TV remote but I doubt you shell out 150$ for it). Come to file sharing, you have the iCloud which pretty much operates on a global range. Nevertheless I find it as a lifesaver in the event you misplace your phone which inevitably is a frequent occurrence.
