Asus Transformer Pad TF300T is the first non-Nexus device to receive Android 4.2 update
The Verge reports that Asus Transformer Pad TF300T will be the first non-Nexus device to be updated to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The update will be released in the US today, which makes it the first device outside of Google’s Nexus program to receive the software. Perhaps other manufacturers should learn a thing or two about updating devices from Asus.
Regions outside the US will also get the upgrade, which will roll out over the air later this month. The upgrade also includes updates to some Asus apps which were bundled in with the tablet. We have no idea as to exactly which build the users will receive, though it’s not sure whether the recent bug fixes from Android 4.2.2 are included along with the update.
Asus has great track record of arming its devices with relatively speedy updates, the previous Transformed Pad being one of the best examples. The Taiwanese company says that its “very close” relationship with Google helps it in providing speedy updates. Asus has also announced that the Transformer Pad Infinity, MeMO Pad Smart, and MeMO Pad will have to wait until Q2 for their updates — a hard choice, but at least the users are certain that they’ll receive the updates.
