This announcement came from Sony’s deputy CEO Bob Ishida, at an event organised by Sony in association with wireless carrier Telefonica, where  Telefonica promised to launch Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z in select markets. Telefonica also extended their support to Sony in developing the Firefox OS device.

This is what Sony’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Head of Products Business Group has to say ‘Our engineers are now working with Firefox OS Mobile and HTML5, evolving technologies which show great potential. In addition, we continue to work with our operator partners, including Telefónica, on a development project with an ambition to bring a product to market in 2014.’

Sony is the latest entrant among Firefox OS based mobile manufacturers, where it joins ZTE, Huawei, Alcatel, and LG.
