Google Play hits 25 billion downloads, celebrate with 25 cent offers

Need directions to the place you’re going to? Or you might want to check an email while on the go? Want to share a picture with friends, or perhaps your favourite music playlist? Maybe you just want to while away some time playing a game? Whatever might be the case, apps have become an indispensable part of our lives and they’re here to stay. And if you’re using Android powered smartphone, it all starts with Google Play, Android’s online app store and home to over 675,000 apps and games. The variety and sheer number of choices on the Google Play store are mind boggling and Google has announced today that they’ve now crossed 25 billion downloads from Google Play store alone, and to celebrate this achievement they’re offering some great discounts for the next five days.

The graph alone is mind-boggling to look at, and with an exponential growth that is seeing no signs of slowdown as of yet we’re sure that Google will reach the next 25 Billion in a record time. To celebrate this great achievement Google is offering discounts on various apps, games, books, movies, music and more. Starting today, every day you’ll be able to choose from a collection of apps from some of the world’s top developers including Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, runtastic, Full Fat and more, and all for just a mere 25 cents, that is around Rs. 13.36 in India, cheaper than a decent Ice-Cream (no pun intended). Also on the offering will be some special collections like 25 movies you must own, 25 banned books, 25 albums that changed the world and our 25 top selling magazines, all at special discounted prices. Visit Google Play a little later today to check them out.

Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has traveled since its launch 35 years ago. It’s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe. And now, thanks to all of you, it’s a Google Play milestone. We look forward to the next 25 billion. – Official Android Blog

Here’s some of the apps help to get you started with: Draw Something, Angry Birds Space Premium, Granny Smith, Asphalt 7: Heat, Ocean HD, OfficeSuite Pro 6 + (PDF&HD), Tasks, NFL Kicker 13.
