iPad mini to hit the markets before end of ’12?

Rumors circulating around the Web about the iPad getting a smaller cousin are gaining more and more momentum and credibility by the minute.

Apple iPad Mini

It is an understatement to say that the electronics market is flooded by tablets – it is an avalanche out there. Gone are the times when such proliferation was attributed only to phones. Manufacturers and software giants are constantly outdoing themselves to bring out better models of their own offerings every other day, leaving customers spoilt for choice. Apple seems to be perched ready to leap in and add fuel to the fire raging in the tablet sector.
Apple’s erstwhile head honcho Steve Jobs openly declared his distaste for smaller sized tablets. As long as he headed the Cupertino-based firm, iPads simply refused to budge from the 9.5″ mark. But a successful company has to adapt to the current market vibe. The buzz created by tablets like the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire among others, has demonstrated the draw that smaller tablets have. The roaring reception form the customers and the interest that they have elicited from potential buyers have probably alerted Apple to what it was about to miss out on. Or, the smaller iPad was already in the works and the process has been sped up to field the formidable competition building up.

According to reports, this compact iteration of the phenomenally successful iPad will exclude the piece de resistance of the existing product – Retina Display. Apple is perhaps out to play the game that it is so good at – selling products from the previous generation at lower prices while unleashing a more extravagant one on the eagerly waiting fans. While the iPad mini doesn’t exactly fall under the previous generation, putting it in Apple’s words, there is nothing ‘resolutionary’ about it apart from the size shrink.

The size isn’t the only thing that’s taking a cut – the price will be lowered too. The iPad mini is expected to fall within the price bracket of $250-$350. Those who are waiting to own an Apple product without burning much of a hole in their wallets will certainly receive this one with open hands. The screen resolution will be retained from the spec of the iPad 2 – 1024X768, obviating the need to worry about the smooth functioning of apps. The amount of internal storage packed into the Mini could be a measly 8GB or a more accommodating 16GB. The screen size is expected to be a standard 7″, but there is another magic number doing the rounds – 7.85″. Apple striving not to compromise on individualism? Could be!

Affordable prices, a compact and no doubt sleek design (come on, its Apple!), a garangutan App store and competitive hardware added with that little something from Apple could well be the recipe for another blazing sales phenomenon. The iPad mini is expected to drop anytime after the 3rd quarter of 2012 begins. Keep your eyes and ears open for another spectacular event from Apple unveiling yet another product that could divert the direction of the trade winds.

I think its better for apple to stick to the previous size of its masterpiece – the iPad. I think it would better for the company and the people too. You bring out a device that’s slightly bigger than a phone but smaller than a tablet I’m not sure how much people are going to like such a thing in the long run. I mean come on, its not big enough a display to watch a great movie on a cozy evening nor it is small enough that you can walk around hands free. What I’m saying is..is it a great product? yes I agree, but will it be really liked by all?? Maybe no…

I, for one, feel that the tablet will do quite well. Not a huge fan of Apple myself, but yes, I would say that. The size isn’t much removed from the norm for a regular tablet. The success of the other tablets already out there can be extrapolated to the iPad mini too. And, at the end of the day, it’s Apple. Like it or not, there are going to be more than a few people camping out in front of stores to get themselves one of these. Apple almost always makes the cut. Competitive products is one thing and a dedicated customer base in another. Apple apparently has both. So, I see a positive outcome.

Yes that’s exactly what I’m trying to point out! We are all sure that Apple is going to do great by launching a mini version of iPad into the market. But what’s bugging me is that how much people are going to like it in the long run?? do you think that they will be able to have the same amount of fun with it as the others had with its bigger version?? considering the display falls in a category of “not to small…not to big”?? That is from a user’s perspective…from Apple’s point of view…how much of a risk does a company take to launch a mini version of a hugely successful product at a much lesser price which, according to you all, is likely to impress the users very much that, it poses a threat to the bigger series?? not that people will stop buying the big versions, but it will loose a lot of profits it could have otherwise earned by selling merely the pricier versions. I don’t think Apple would be up to it…

Well, i completely agree with this guy! The 6 or 7″ tablet market is a bit confusing. As u say…not big enough to watch a movie… nor is it small enough to carry around.

well. If they are confusing, talk about Galaxy Note as a phone. It’s funny to watch people hold it to their heads and talk on THAT thing!

haha! true…but its still marketed as a phone…but a tablet is a tablet…you launch a product in the market calling it a Tablet PC that is big enough that you can hold it in your hands and work and provide a display big enough to enjoy your favourite movies…and then all of a sudden you cut down on its size to provide A “miniature” version?? i know iPad is a huge success…but i don’t think the company has to necessarily make it “accessible” to all the iPad-crazed fans out there..i think the whole concept of tablet would be lost…
