Karbonn to launch quad-core based smartphone

Amidst flurry of activity relating to the release of quad core processors based phones, an unlikely name has come up. The Indian electronics manufactureres, Karbonn mobile have announced their latest product to be launched in the Indian market – a quad-core processor based smartphone. Going by the reports, the processor that will be included in this relatively feature-rich and costly product from Karbonn is to be Mediatek MT6589.

Given the chipset being used which supports several camera features such as up to a 13MP camera, the panaromic mode and HD video recording, the smartphone is likely to be based on the Android Jelly Bean OS. What makes this product unique is perhaps the dual-sim functionality believed to be incorporated into the handset – which if true make this the first quad-core based phone to have the dual-sim feature.

Given the powerful chipset, it is expected that it would come with a 1 GB of RAM. Finally, the pricing is likely to be reasonable – to reach out to a large section of Indian consumers – somewhere about the 15,000 rupees mark. The date of release is likely to be somwhere in mid-2013 as it is for most new products in this segment.
