LG reveals the new Optimus G: 1.5Ghz Quad-Core CPU, 4.7in IPS LCD, ICS, 2100mAh Battery

LG Electronics has finally revealed its ‘Optimus G’ smartphone to the public after weeks of teasing. We have the complete official specs to look at now and they’re nothing short of the best. The phone has been renamed as Optimus G Lightning, a very apt name considering its specs sheet.

The Optimus G displays a unique design with an invisible screen border and a reflective rear. The bezel is just 3mm wide and the phone’s thickness is less than 9mm, sounds like LG has finally succeeded in using its in-cell touch technology. The 4.7 inch display is made up of True HD (1280 x 768) IPS LCD. LG claims to have the screen blend in with the rest of the phone when it’s switched off. It is the first LTE enabled smartphone to feature a next-gen quad-core processor, thanks to the 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 at its core. LG claims to have a 40% increase in raw performance and 3 times faster graphics processing ability. It boasts a high 13MP resolution camera at is rear and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. Its innovative display is the world’s first ‘fully integrated touch’ on the glass cover allowing direct contact with the graphic at the end of the hand, reducing thickness and also improving strength. LG claims the screen to be very sharp, to have improved power consumption and better outdoor visibility. The battery is 2100mAh and LG claims it to work flawlessly up to 800 charge cycles, a very great feature considering the phone measures in at around 8mm in thickness. LG asserts that ‘Optimus G’ will have an innovative user experience and improve the quality of life beyond simple ease.

The smartphone will be first released in Korea with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and LG plans to pan out to the rest of the world eventually. LG hasn’t said anything about release dates for the rest of the world or anything about the Jelly Bean update, but we must hear about it shortly at the IFA 2012 in Berlin.
