Microsoft confirms next major Windows Phone release
A job posting by Microsoft for a Software Development Engineer in Test has confirmed Microsoft’s plans for the next major Windows Phone release. The release will be happening during the US holiday season, which will be sometime around the November-December period.
According to Mary Jo Foley, an expert on everything Microsoft, Windows Phone Blue will come after the Windows 8 release, which is rumoured to to be released this summer.
An excerpt from the job posting reads:
This is a great time to join as we’re completing our current release are getting ready for our next release targeting the holiday of this year and we’re chartered with keeping the momentum for Windows Phone by bringing new killer devices and delightful user experiences. There are enormous growth opportunities in this role and organization.
Windows Phone 8 users are expected to receive minor updates over the coming months leading up to the ‘next major’ release. WP8 is already rumoured to receive some minor updates such as the so-called GDR2 and GDR3 releases. Microsoft has formerly released “Portico”, the first significant WP8 update, and the Redmond giant is planning on further improvements in an update which is being referred to as “Apollo Plus.”
