Karbonn S1 Titanium quad core smartphone launched for Rs. 13,000

It seems that Indian manufacturer Karbonn does not want to be left behind in the smartphone race. Karbonn has just launched their latest smartphone, the Karbonn S1 Titanium. This is Karbonn’s 1st quad core Android smartphone. However, unlike the recently announced Micromax A116 Canvas HD, the Karbonn S1 Titanium packs a smaller 4.5″ qHD (960 x 540) display than a full 5 inch HD display, which effectively removes it from the phablet territory. Smart move Karbonn?
Karbonn S1 Titanium
So the Karbonn S1 Titanium is a quad core smartphone running on the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. In addition, the smartphone supports dual sim and comes with a not so great 5 MP rear camera.
Karbonn S1 Titanium Specifications
- 1.2 GHz quad core processor
- 1 GB of RAM
- 4.5″ qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display
- 5 MP rear camera, auto focus and LED flash
- VGA front facing camera
- 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth
- 3.5mm jack & micro USB port
- 1,600 mAh battery
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS
What Karbonn did is make a 4.5 inch smartphone rather than a 5 inch one, to avoid competiting with the very popular Micromax A116 Canvas HD. And it definitely made a right choice. Catering to a market just below the A116, the Karbonn S1 Titanium priced at Rs. 13,000 targets a different audience who don’t want phablets yet they want to enjoy the latest technology at a slightly more affordable price. The 1600 mAh battery is a cause for concern however.
Let’s see if Karbonn’s strategy works out for them, or not.
