Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G – a TV junkie’s phone

MetroPCS has a new Android phone for its 4G LTE prepaid network – the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G with built in mobile TV capabilities.
The Galaxy S Lightray 4G brings TV viewing to the palm of your hand via an antenna extending from the back of the handset. The content is delivered to the handset through dedicated mobile TV airwaves, so it won’t eat up your data plan! The software counterpart to this system is an app called Dyle Mobile TV Service which offers live local TV channels. The service is free once you purchase the phone. A data connection will be required during initial setup.
This phone is a solid mid-range offering and should prove to be quite useful for sports lovers. The technical specifications are as follows
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- 1GHz CPU
- 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus Display
- 8MP rear camera with LED Flash
- 1.3MP front facing camera
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE connectivity
- 4G Mobile Hotspot capabilities
- 1.38GB internal storage
- Up to 32GB external storage( Comes pre-installed with a 16GB memory card)
MetroPCS claims that it runs on a “speedy” 1GHz CPU and gives 200 hours of standby time. However the actual CPU, RAM, display resolution and battery specifications have not been released yet.
Weighing in at 138 grams and measuring 0.46 in thickness, the Lightray is lightweight and looks very similar to the Droid Charge.
Finally coming to the carrier plans, MetroPCS offers unlimited voice, text and data but speeds will be throttled after a data limit. The service is available without a two-year contract and plans start at $40 per month.
The Samsung Galaxy S Lightray is currently available for $459.00.
