It’s not everyday that we get to see a Bollywood star launch a highly anticipated gadget. Apart from the Xperia Z, Sony has also launched the Xperia ZL and Xperia E/E Dual handsets and the Xperia Tablet Z tablet.

Sony has been teasing about the launch since a week, and the phones went up for pre-order on flipkart just yesterday.

Sony Xperia Z sports a 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Reality display (443 ppi) with mobile Bravia Engine 2. It runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which is upgradable to Android 4.2, and is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 processor with Adreno 320 GPU.

On the rear is a 13 MP camera with LED Flash, and an Exmor RS sensor for HDR images and video. A front-facing 2.2 MP 720p camera is included for video calling. The handset is water and dust resistant with IP55 and IP57 ratings. At just 7.9 mm thickness and a mere 146 g weight, the Xperia Z doesn’t disappoint with its ‘OmniBalance’ design consisting of round edges and a smooth finish.

Other specifications include 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal memory, external memory expandable up to 64 GB with microSD card, 4G LTE / 3G, WiFi 820.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and a 2370 mAh battery.

The Sony Xperia Z will be available in Black, White and Purple colors and is priced at Rs. 38,990 (MRP). The handset would go on sale across India from 12th March and is bundled with exclusive offers such as 8GB of free 3G data from Vodafone, and 6 months of free Sony Music Unlimited and Video streaming. Sony plans to better its service by providing standby units if/when your Xperia Z needs to be given in at the service center for repairs.
