Sony’s plans for Indian Photographers in 2013

UntitledIf rumours are to be believed then the Indian photographers should get ready with their money as Sony plans to expand the camera segment in India. Apparently, Sony has decided to add to the existing line-up of NEX cameras which include the NEX-3 and NEX-5. And it has been hinted that Sony is going to introduce either the NEX-7 or the NEX -5R or the NEX-6 to the Indian market in the coming year.

Sony recently released the NEX-7, the NEX-5R and the NEX-6 in the foreign market and has received a great response. But, the Indian photography scene has not shown much interest towards mirrorless cameras and hence Sony too hasn’t made any special effort to bring the new line-up to India. But Canon’s entry with the introduction of EOS-M has made Sony think twice about its previous decision and given it a reason to make its move in the Indian market.

The Sony NEX-7 leads the mirrorless camera line-up i.e the NEX series and has managed to create quite a splash with its 24 megapixel APS-C sensor. Touted to be the camera with the highest pixel count in its class, the performance of the NEX-7 has been unmatched. The Sony NEX-6 and NEX-5R both come with a  16 megapixel APS-C sensor along with Wi-Fi. Other features include the in-camera apps and on-sensor phase detection autofocus .But, the NEX-6 flaunts its high-resolution, 2.3M dot OLED viewfinder when compared to the NEX-5R.

It is still unknown as to which one of these three cameras is bound to be released in India, but if given a choice , one would go for the NEX-7 as it is the simply the best of the lot. Also, keeping the Indian audience in mind, one would say that the NEX-6 would sell more as it is much cheaper than the NEX-7 and almost on par with it with regards to specifications. If Sony wishes to take a strong stand in the Indian mirrorless camera market, it’ll be either the NEX-7 or the NEX-6 ,and definitely not the NEX-5R.

So, for all you people looking to buy a good mirrorless camera,  keep your money ready  and stay tuned for Sony’s next move.
