Tick, tock, it’s Ubuntu tablet time!

Ubuntu Tablet Tick Tock Webpage

Today is turning out to be a busy day in terms of announcements, thanks to the big event scheduled by HTC. Various reports are chiming in from different corners of the net that HTC will be sharing the limelight with Canonical. A timer appeared on Ubuntu’s website 15 hours before and the page hints at a tablet-related announcement to be made today. Canonical is not known for producing its own hardware and any announcement related to tablets will be expected to be regarding a tablet-optimised version of its mobile operating system which was announced recently. The Ubuntu mobile phone will be releasing this October, but it seems like Canonical wants to get in on the highly competitive and growing industry of tablets. With Apple, Google, Microsoft and Amazon already up in arms in the tablet market, it remains to be seen what an Ubuntu based tablet would bring to the table.

According to various sources, the tablet is expected to be a 10-inch tablet manufactured by HTC, considerably larger than the current mainstream offerings from the competitors. HTC hasn’t been doing that well in the tablet market, but this might just be the chance they were waiting for. The counter is now almost to a close, expect an announcement soon.
