Do you keep changing your mobile SIMs while shifting your base from one state to another? Well, now you are in for some pleasant news! The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has now made it necessary for the mobile phone companies to execute complete mobile number portability within the duration of 6 months. Hence, mobile users in India can retain their number while shifting to a different state. This will be implemented by April 2014.
It will be very helpful move for those who are into transferable jobs as well as others. The concept of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is that it enables subscribers to keep his or her mobile number even when he or she shifts from one service provider to another. The Mobile Number Portability was earlier limited within a service area and there are 22 service areas in India. However, Pan-India MNP will prove to be very useful for a wide range of mobile phone users as it is not available within a service area only.
Complete MNP will also provide huge opportunities to the leading mobile phone companies who have drawn benefits from MNP within a service area in the past. It will also enable the small companies to take a chance at acquiring corporate customers which is likely to bring them higher revenue. MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions and Syniverse Technologies provide the service of Mobile Number Portability to all carriers.
The method for processing the cross service porting requests has been finalized by TRAI after some consultation sessions with the industry. The method is such that it does not require interconnections between the MNP providers. Therefore, minimal costs are involved in installing this system. Changes will be made in the existing MNP licenses as well as TRAI’s previous instructions while implementing Pan India MNP.
