Audio Technica ATH-CKL202 Review: An affordable IEM for road-warriors

Audio Technica ATH-CKL202

ATH-CKL202’s are colorful IEMs which are meant for people who love to stay on the move. With a snug fit they are comfortable in the ear and provide fairly good sound for the price. Included are 2 pairs of silicon buds of different sizes (small and large) in addition to the medium size buds already on the headphones. They go for Rs.1200 a piece on the streets.

The translucent body and vivid coloring makes these earphones hard to miss. The build quality is good. They feel rugged and should be able to survive abuse. The cable is a little stiff but feels strong. The silicon buds provide decent isolation from ambient noise.

Coming to sound quality, I have to say that these earphones don’t particularly sound good. The sound has little range. Classical and Jazz fans should stay away. The bass feels muddy and lacks power. Highs are often too sharp. These earphones cannot handle high volume levels and slightly distort sound which isn’t very noticeable so it won’t affect everyone. They sound decent with phones and PMPs. The best volume would be about 70% and above that the sound was just too sharp.

Verdict

  • Good build quality
  • Looks attractive
  • Average sound quality
  • Value for money
  • Very portable
  • Good noise isolation and comfortable
