[REVIEW] Temple Run 2 Android

Temple Run was one of the biggest hits on Android, which made Imangi Studios very popular.  When Temple Run 2 was announced, it was obvious that there would be a lot of expectations pinned on it. Initially it was released for iOS alone, but it was available on Play Store since 24th January. Guy Dangerous is back this time with an even better run. Here’s hoping he succeeds again. Lets get to the specifics and see how it fares.

Gameplay:

Temple Run 2 is built right on top of the original hit. You carry an idol and keep running from a Monster which wants to catch you. We control the character by swiping and tilting. Swiping left or right will turn you to that side, while swiping up and down results in a jump and slide respectively. We tilt the phone to move the character between the three lanes. It is as simple as that and same as before. But now we have a few additions. In the game, there are places where we need to control a cart through a tunnel, or jump and slide using a rope. Controls are still the same, but these are welcome additions to the fans. There are also new ways to die, either you jump off the cliff at points, or you get carried away by running water or you slow down and get caught or get hit by a tree or a rock or spike trunk.
Controls were fine, but at times we felt that our touch wasn’t registered or swipes don’t get recognized. This may be device specific, so I think it will be fixed in upcoming updates.

In the game you can increase your multiplier or scores by completing a set of objectives given to you. Based on that you even move a few levels up which you can unlock a few power ups or upgrades. We have four characters under our control, Guy Dangerous(by Default), Scarlett Fox, Barry Bones and Karma Lee. The other three can be unlocked using coins which you collect while playing.

Graphics & Sound:

Temple Run 2 has a new setting to choose graphics based on your phone’s specifications. So if you can, crank it up and enjoy the game. Having tested on Best graphic level, it can be said that the game looks a lot better than the original. But still it falls behind many games like N.O.V.A., Dead Space etc. But for a game of this size, it looks good enough. There are still a few glitches, but they are not so noticeable while playing.

Sounds are mostly similar to the original and it was apt right for the situation. But at times,we felt it could’ve been better. Still, Imangi Studios have done a great job to keep the sounds germane to the game environment. Sounds felt natural to hear, and were enough to keep us gaming for long.

Verdict:

Overall we felt that Imangi Studios have brought us another winner. This game is a must play for all Android users and iOS users alike. Having played for a day, I say it could maintain the same tempo the original had. The additions are definitely a plus and make us enjoy the game. It is great for those people who want to just relax a while from their usual work. If there were a few more graphic improvements, more sounds, and even more refined gameplay, it would’ve been a 5-star game. But it still earns a good 3.5 stars, which makes it easy for us to recommend it to you. Have fun running.
